Carmona Statement on Paycheck Fairness Act
Dr. Richard Carmona, the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, released the following statement on the Senate's failure to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act:
"The existing wage gap between women and men in the workplace is a reflection of misplaced priorities that have driven a wedge in our society and negatively impact our economy. The Senate today could have stepped up to address this inequity, but instead chose to let partisan politics get in the way of simple fairness."
"This is a common sense solution that should have transcended politics. Equal pay for equal work shouldn't have to be a Democratic or Republican idea, and we shouldn't be talking about it just because it is an election year. It's simply a good idea and long overdue."
