Holding Washington Accountable
Washington has proven over and over again that it is in need of adult supervision to do the right thing. As long as Congress can't responsibly reduce the budget deficit, I propose we cut their pay until they complete their jobs. And we ought to also freeze it until they do their job and balance the budget. Congress needs to start feeling the pain the middle class has felt during recent years so they will act with the urgency these times demand.
I also applaud the restrictions on insider trading by members of Congress put in place by the STOCK Act. However, important anti-corruption measures requiring financial analysts and researchers disclose contact with members of Congress and their staff were left out. It’s the same requirements we have for lobbying, why shouldn’t we have it for the financial industry and those who traffic in political intelligence for profit?
It is far past the time we put important restrictions in place to keep career politicians – or their favored special interest friends - from profiting from their offices.
